Hopefully this isn't a case of someone being heavily invested in the project and wanting to make sure it works smoothly; the design may be great, but it still needs a good deal of work to make it fit the GNOME platform. Also, the developers have started working on a web interface for Smuxi, to help reduce the need for installing the program on all your computers.
